Koen Masteling

The optimistic tenor Koen Masteling is versatile within the classical field. He plays in several opera productions, including traditional productions, but also many newly written works. He is a soloist in concerts with repertoire ranging from early music to contemporary music.

Study

In 2023, Koen graduated from the Master of Music at the Conservatory of Rotterdam (Codarts) where he studied with Marcel Reijans. While studying in Rotterdam, he has also worked with Daan Boertien, David Bollen and Maarten Hillenius. At his Bachelor of Music in Tilburg, he graduated cum laude with both singing and acting as his main subjects. In Tilburg, he was vocally coached by Harry Ruijl and received acting lessons from Marc Krone and Brigitte Odett, among others. During his studies, Koen took master classes from for example Margreet Honig, Paul McNamara, Monique Wagemakers, Paul Triepels, Henk Neven and Charlotte Riedijk.

Work experience

In recent years, Koen has gained a lot of work experience in the opera and oratorio field. He has sung roles with opera companies such as Holland Opera and Opera Spanga. He has also been a soloist in various oratorios and opera/operetta concerts with, among others, the Apollo Ensemble, Philharmonie Noord and Domestica Rotterdam. In addition, Koen has sung choral projects with Cappella Amsterdam, Laurens Collegium and PA'dam, among others. In the near future, Koen wil perform project such as a theatrical song recital 'Dort wo du nicht bist' from Opera Spanga and he will play in Holland Opera's new Christmas production.
