Rigoletto - Opera Spanga

From July 17 through August 7, 2027 in Spanga

Information:

The best-written opera ever! That’s what Giuseppe Verdi himself believed; he was convinced he would never write anything as good again (fortunately for us creators and for you, the audience, that turned out not to be true—he went on to write countless masterpieces).

No composer in the world lays bare the human soul as clearly as Giuseppe Verdi.
In just under two hours, he dissects ten characters: a delicate teenage soul (Gilda), a loving but overprotective father (Rigoletto), who, to make a living, plays the fool in the palace of a fabulously wealthy man with an insatiable lust for young girls (and a magnificent liar, the Duke). Another father (Monterone), whose daughter has been abused by the Duke, a hitman (Sparafucile), and his sister (Maddalena), who lets herself be taken advantage of for a few pennies. And oh yes, a motley crew of weak, rich good-for-nothings (Ceprano, Borsa, Marullo) who try to get a piece of the action wherever they can. And a completely untrustworthy governess (Giovanna).

Marcel van Dieren is Rigoletto (including *Macbeth*, *La Traviata*, *Il Tabarro*, and *Mijn Engel ik geloof je*), Erin Selin is Gilda (*Der Rosenkavalier*), Juan Carlos Echeverry is the Duke (including *La Traviata*, *Eugene Onegin*, and *Tosca*), Itzel Medecigo is Maddalena and Giovanna (including *Carmen*, *Eugene Onegin*, and *Der Rosenkavalier*), Samuel Wong is Sparafucile and Monterone (*Carmen* and *Eugene Onegin*), Koen Masteling is Borsa (including *Anne & Zef*, *Tosca*, *My Angel, I Believe You*, and *Der Rosenkavalier*), Wessel Wirken is Ceprano (including *Carmen*, *Madam Scrooge*, and *My Angel, I Believe You*), and Jitze van der Land is Marullo (Der Rosenkavalier).

The 12-member ensemble of *Tosca* (2025) is conducted by Tjalling Wijnstra in the orchestra pit.
