Mozart Requiem - Phion

May 21, 2027 – May 23, 2027

INFORMATION

If there is one requiem that captures the imagination, it is Mozart’s, composed in the final days of his life. Did Mozart realize that a requiem would be his ultimate composition? He wrote it with passion, expressing his deeply personal interpretation of the impressive Latin text. Mozart left it unfinished, but fortunately his student Süßmayr was able to complete it based on the sketches he left behind. And thus, this impressive testament to the transience of life has been preserved for eternity, now performed by four exceptional soloists, Consensus Vocalis, and the Phion Orchestra under the baton of principal conductor Alexei Ogrintchouk

Also featured in this program is a new composition by composer-in-residence Aftab Darvishi. She wrote it, inspired by the image of “a new world through the eyes of a child.” It couldn’t be a more fitting follow-up to Mozart.
